Seasonal Shanghai Showcases Growth Rhythm



 

      Shanghai is the economic, trade, financial and shipping center, as well as an important tourist destination in China. With an advantageous geographic location and convenient transport facilities, Shanghai has time-honored close contact with the world in terms of politics, economy, culture and tourism. As a new economic growth point of Shanghai, the tourism has made great progress. By the end of 2015, the city boasted 247 star-rated hotels and 1,428 travel agencies, among which 134 travel agencies are qualified for outbound tourism. In 2015, Shanghai received more than 8 million inbound tourist arrivals, with the foreign exchange revenue of over US$ 5.96 billion; at the same time, domestic tourists totaled up 270 million, with domestic tourism revenue of RMB 300.473 billion. The total tourism revenue amounted to RMB 350.524 billion. Tourism has become a vibrant and sustainable development emerging industry among Shanghai’s tertiary industry.
     Shanghai is a famous historical and cultural city of China combining oriental culture with western culture. Besides traditional tourist attractions, such as exotic building clusters on the Bund, Yuyuan Garden, Ancient Town of Zhujiajiao nearby Dianshan Lake, all of them feature in simple folk customs and natural and humanistic landscape and attract more and more visitors.
      Shanghai has become a shopping paradise for domestic and overseas travelers. The city has developed some venues for shopping, sightseeing and leisure life, including the famous Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road, Sichuan Road, Yuyuan Tourist Mart, Xujiahui Commercial City, and the shopping center at the new railway station.
     Shanghai attaches great importance to developing international MICE industry. By the end of 2015, there were 851 exhibition projects, with the year-on-year growth of 12.72% and the exhibition area amounted to 15.13 million square meters with a year-on-year increase of 21.96%. Among them, international exhibitions amounted to 292, with a year-on-year growth of 4.29% and the exhibition area amounted to 11.24 million square meters with a year-on-year increase of 24.81%; domestic exhibitions amounted to 559, with a year-on-year growth of 17.68% and the exhibition area amounted to 3.89 million square meters, with a year-on-year increase of 14.43%.
     Shanghai is the place for world gourmets and metropolitan culture. In Shanghai, visitors will not only taste the famous Chinese Mitten Crab and various local desserts, but also 16 types of cuisines including Beijing, Sichuan, Guangdong, Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, as well as dozens of kinds of foreign cuisines. In short, visitors might find it hard to forget Shanghai’s vibrant nightlife.
