CITM 2017 carves out halls for niche tourism segments like sports, wellness; offers tech engagement
CITM 2017 kicks off today featuring the show’s very first hall dedicated to sports tourism, with different zones for subsegments including mountain and land, water, aerial, snow and caving activities, and self-drive camping.
The exhibition will also feature dedicated halls for Yunnan province – guided by a “holistic Yunnan” thrust – as well as health and wellness tourism.
At a press conference late yesterday afternoon, Wen ShuQiong, deputy director general of the Yunnan Tourism Promotion Committee, said the host province’s hall will spotlight the province’s rejuvenated tourism industry and a better-organised marketplace.

Innovations and transformation will be another highlight, with capabilities such as facial recognition, smart navigation and VR interactions on show as part of the “one mobile phone to tour Yunnan” programme.
Meanwhile, the health and wellness tourism hall will showcase products including high-end medical treatments, traditional Chinese and ethnic medicine, and hotsprings.
Against the backdrop of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, tradeshows like CITM are expected to not only strengthen China’s position as a fast-developing economic superpower, but also improve its image as a globalised and graceful society, commented Zhang Xi Long, deputy head, international relations office of China National Tourism Administration.
Expected at CITM 2017 are participants from countries such as Germany, France, Denmark, Japan, South Korea, the US, Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand. This year’s exhibition will feature 351 booths across 17,200m2 of floor space.
